In Photoshop, I use the native threading filters, and often create frames for images. I have the control to change the resolution and quality of images, or resize it and then mask the adjustment frame. Lightroom allows one to create a frame for any image with auto-masking functionality. However, I have to say, Lightroom is in the process of correcting this case. If you click into the frame and it is not continuous to the edge you can get an outline. When you click outside the outline, it removes the image.
With the new features that Lightroom 5 has, Photoshop by comparison is now holding back. With a set of brushes for creating vignettes, Lightroom now has the ability to harness filters as well.
I applaud Adobe for updating their software. I truly enjoy the new features and capabilities that they have rolled out.
In addition to the new features, the size of the application actually has increased with over 2GB of additional storage. This is a huge upgrade from the previous 1GB of storage. This can become a problem, if you are trying to migrate a library with Camera Raw adjustment files onto a new computer and have to spend hours trying to figure out why the files are not loading properly. It is also much more difficult to research and find the right file for just one adjustment on a computer.
The new app is integrated with other Adobe products, and provides more control over automated tasks. A new one-click editing option with vector shapes eliminates the need to carefully select each object with the Brush tool in order to edit shape. Object selection is refined so you can not only select an object with the Lasso tool, but also select individual pixels with the Expert mode. Photoshop will learn the types of objects you use and provide more advanced customization options.

This is the first version of Photoshop for iOS to include smart eraser support for removing effects applied to an adjustment layer. Speaking of additions to the mobile lineup, there’s also the exciting (and named) app update planned for October that will bring some of the desktop’s most sought-after 3D tools to your iPad and Android tablet. If you’re familiar with the desktop versions of these apps, you can expect to see similar features, such as the ability to view and apply contents for either front or back faces to 3D objects, as well as some brand new features.
