From flying cities to surround sound film, new apps are being released for the iPhone X in partnership with Adobe. We don’t know at this point how Photoshop and its Substance siblings will work together. We can only hope that the 3D feature-set, and the more modern programming tools inspired by it, are not plunked in a cesspool of old cruft, leftover code, deprecated APIs, and all the other things that bogged down the product for users.
Another concern among users of older Macs is whether Adobe will continue to support older Intel-based Macs, or just focus the latest Mac models in the future. The MacBook Pro lineup has been around since 2006, and the MacBook Air line of computers since 2008. So if the company works to drop support for those Macs with the Portland-based hardware team that builds Elements, why not let the same principles apply to Photoshop? After all, the company needs to ensure that it has a rock-solid position on mobile and cloud, and games have already been dropped in the process of that trying-and-mostly-failing transition.

2017 has brought some great features to the table, such as a much more robust image stabilization tool, the ability to make an image WiFi-enabled, and a number of other cool new features that made it possible to take images and video 360 degrees.
Despite this, the highlight, in my opinion, is the widespread availability of Photoshop’s wireframe features, which allow people to get creative with photomanipulation – automating Photoshop’s default tools and making them even more accessible to the average user.
For me, the excitement is also in the future. While the company is still a leader in the realm of so-called professional photography, it’s limping along as others such as Canon come in with more and more powerful optics, even occupying the territory of the evolution of photojournalism that Photoshop was born to handle.
In the past, Photoshop brought to the world the artistic use of color, layout, and design that allowed a new medium to be heard, while recent years have seen it become a digital beast that only the very most creative professionals would ever need. It’s great to see that Adobe continues to recruit its strength in these areas versus the small and simple ones it has traditionally been known for.
